We've had a steady stream of buses detouring down our otherwise quiet residential street here in Austin, E 35th between Speedway and Duval, for a couple of months now.

The detour is caused by construction on Speedway that was supposed to be finished in September, but the contractor is dragging things out, rarely working on the project and (I'm told) refusing to work with the city to schedule any needed road closures... so the buses are permanently detoured until further notice.

Not only are the buses noisy, but they barely fit down the street and terrorize cars coming the other way. And, as you can see in this photo (and another on flickr), they're tearing up the asphalt.
